A certain rabbi, R. Rosenthal spent Tishrei, 5717/1956, in New York. During Sukkos, he went to 770 and into the Rebbe’s sukkah to bless the Arba Minim.
When he went in, the Rebbe was standing up, holding a sefer Tehillim. Upon seeing the Rebbe, he held out his hand in greeting.
The Rebbe shook his hand but did not stop reciting Tehillim. Instead, he recited the verse, “From our garden the L-rd saw and looked into the face of Your anointed one.” For R. Rosenthal seeing the Rebbe for the first time and hearing this verse was a very inspiring experience that he never forgot.
He remained non-Chabad but whenever he heard anyone speak against the Rebbe, he would would say with emotion: “Look into the face of Your anointed one.”
י מָגִנֵּנוּ, רְאֵה אֱלֹהִים; וְהַבֵּט, פְּנֵי מְשִׁיחֶךָ
Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of Thine anointed.
